Put a fun new spin on a classic recipe and make a New Tra-Dish! This one comes from Amy over at The Stitchin’ Mommy, who came up with a delicious twist on a traditional dinner dish.
The result: sandwiches for dinner!

I’m always looking for new dishes to make for my family and
I love putting new spins on traditional recipes. So when I got the opportunity
to put my own spin on the Ragú Classic Sausage and Peppers, I was super excited!

I started to think about what my family really likes to eat and how they like
to eat. Italian food is always a favorite in my home. Also, my husband and
daughter both love things that they can grab and eat quickly, even for dinner.

So I decided to take the Classic Sausage and Peppers recipe and make my
New Tra-Dish of Sausage and Peppers Calzones! The recipe is super easy and
only requires a few simple ingredients. I hope you enjoy the recipe!

Ingredients (yields 4 servings)

  • 16 oz package Italian sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 24 oz jar Ragú® Old World Style® Traditional Sauce
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 32 oz pizza dough

Instructions

  1. Heat
olive oil in medium skillet over medium heat.

For Sausage & Peppers

  1. Add
sausage and cook stirring occasionally, 5-7 minutes.
  2. Drain
    excess fat.
  3. Add
onion and peppers and cook until tender, about 5 minutes
  4. Add
    sausage back to pan.
  5. Add
sauce and stir everything together. Set aside

For Calzone

  1. Preheat
    oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. Divide
your pizza dough into 4 balls.
  3. Flatten
your dough into disks into 7″ circles.
  4. Place
dough onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment or a silicone mat.
  5. Spoon
a small amount of your sausage and peppers mixture onto one half of the
    pizza dough disk.
  6. Fold
the dough over and seal the edges by folding the edge over itself and
    pinching to seal.
  7. Bake
in a 450 degree oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes: For
any leftover Sausage & Peppers, you can serve it over pasta and it is
fantastic!
